The Archetypal Damsel in Distress

(I think I made you up inside my head) –Sylvia Plath

We’ll be in a casket before long with no

promise of reality.

I’ve become one half yearning for another—

magnetized,

but flipped to repel

by society’s cruel games, traditions.

I manifested the idea of you, though.

(I think I made you up inside my head) –Sylvia Plath

I only note your eyes in reality, but my

dreams have manifested you

into a character, stock character,

archetype.

It’s not true—can’t be true.

(I think I made you up inside my head) –Sylvia Plath

I don’t believe in your soul or mine—

most of the time.
